A solar home heating
system uses the solar evacuated tube collectors to absorb the energy
from the sun. This energy is transferred to a storage tank. The stored
heat is integrated with the existing heating system to supply heat.
Generally, a large size 119 gallon storage tank can be used to store
more energy. It can be used to supply heat when the sun doesn’t shine
especially during the evening.
Winter
is the time of the year when you demand more heat. Hence, a secondary
dissipation loop may be required to off load the heat during the summer.
If you own a pool or a pool, the excess amount of heat energy can be
transferred during summer while providing free pool and hot tub heat and
home heating during winter.
Alternatively,
a dissipation loop like a buried pipe or exterior fan can be used for
dumping the heat. However, consider installing a geothermal system which
will remove excess amount of heat during summer storing it in the
ground for using during winter.
Solar
home heating kits are ideal to use in colder area which are susceptible
to freezing. They use a special solar glycol heating fluid which will
avoid damage caused by frozen pipes. This special fluid can work a minus
40 Fahrenheit and can operate really well in temperatures as high as
480F. Northern Lights use specially designed solar storage tanks with
119 gallons storage capacity which is able to hold over 120,000 BTU (35
KW) heat energy at any time.
How Does Solar Home Heating System Work?
Northern
Lights solar home heating kit uses a special solar storage tank,
helping in storing solar energy during day time. It can release the
stored energy during night when the heat demand remains higher than the
daytime. The storage tank is used for residential hot water purposes so
that the solar energy can providing water heating for both residential
water heating and space heating in one system.
The
solar heating system features with a 4.5 KW heating element present in
the middle of the storage tank. It’s addition whether you use it or not.
The heating element can be used to make sure that there is always
availability of hot water during the evening. This is a hybrid system
which is well-known for providing solar radiant floor heating benefits.
The solar home heating system can eliminate the requirement for the
hydronic boiler as the 4.5 KW heater and the solar energy provide enough
energy for up to around 2,000 square feet space.
The
solar space heater comes with the Resol controller which helps in
controlling both the solar heating loop and secondary heating loop. This
integrated solar heating package is able to deliver the highest
paybacks on solar heating.
The
solar home heating system combined with the Geothermal heating system
is another popular way of combining two sources of green energy that
provides you with maximum cost savings. This system uses excess amount
of energy from the solar water heater which Northern Lights can add this
energy to the geothermal loop through a heat exchanger.
Another
way of heating with solar system is with the solar air heater. It’s a
much more affordable way of heating space; but it’s unable to store heat
energy. Air gets heated through the glass layer and selective coated
material layer which helps in absorbing heat energy. A solar PV fan
system distributes heat energy throughout the house according to the
thermostatic controller. It really works well for homes with basements
or crawl spaces that require heating the colder air.
